Flo received her Juris Doctor degree in law from the University of South Carolina in 1985. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science from the College of Charleston in 1982.
Flo is admitted to practice before all state and federal courts in South Carolina, the United States Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit, and the Supreme Court of the United States.
Flo received the 2014 Compleat Lawyer Gold Award from the University of South Carolina School of Law. This award recognizes alumni for outstanding civic and professional accomplishments. Recipients are individuals who have made significant contributions to the legal profession and exemplify the highest standards of professional competence, ethics and integrity.
Flo is a Past President of the South Carolina Bar (having previously served as Secretary, Treasurer, President-Elect and member of the Board of Governors). She was only the third female to serve as Bar President.
Flo is a member of the Chief Justice's Commission on the Profession, Chair of the Bar's Solo and Small Firm Council, founding board member of the Bar's Sustained committee for lawyers facing serious illnesses, board member and past area representative for the South Carolina Women Lawyers Association, ABA State Bar Delegate, member of the South Carolina Association for Justice, and lifetime member of the Bar's House of Delegates. She frequently serves as a judge for local, regional and national mock trial competitions for middle school and high school teams.
Flo is a former law clerk to the Honorable David W. Harwell, past Chief Justice of the South Carolina Supreme Court.
Flo's former Bar involvement includes serving on the editorial board of the South Carolina Lawyer Magazine, board member of the Commission on Grievances and Discipline, member of the South Carolina Bar Judicial Qualifications Committee, and board member of the South Carolina Bar Foundation.
Flo formerly served as a member of the Chief Justice's Commission on Lawyer Advertising, secretary of the Florence County Bar Association, legal writing instructor at the USC School of Law and at the Florence Darlington Technical College paralegal program, presenter at the Florence County Bar Association's People's Law School, and participant in the Florence County Bar Association's Ask-a-Lawyer programs.
Flo's community involvement includes being an active communicant at Saint John's Church where she previously served as Clerk of the Vestry, life member and former Pee Dee Area Representative for the College of Charleston Alumni Association; past board member and chair of Easter Seals of the Pee Dee; past board member of Easter Seals of South Carolina; member, former Board member and past Distinguished President of the Florence Kiwanis Club; former Make-A-Wish volunteer, and former chair and board member of CHOiCES Alternative School for troubled youth.
Flo and her husband, Jay, are life long residents of Florence, South Carolina. Her husband is a Family Court Judge for the 12th Judicial Circuit. Flo enjoys traveling, fine dining and bad puns.
Flo's practice areas include personal injury, social security disability, worker's compensation and probate.
